The thing that I most love about living in Exeter
is that wherever you are in the city you can always see green hills and you know
that within a 20 minute drive you could be forgiven for thinking you were in the
middle of nowhere. |

Exeter is an historic city pre-dating the Romans
who on arrival re-named the city Isca. The river Exe played a major part in the
cities history as it allowed full access to the English channel from the city
making trade up and down the coastline as well as further afield possible.
Within the city are numerous remnants of bygone
ages there are a number of sites where the Roman walls are still visible and
Rougemont Gardens in the city centre still has Norman architecture /
fortifications on display; |

This is a photo I took in the quay area of Exeter
this is about 2 miles from the city centre, and is a popular area with students
as it houses the the majority of the city's night clubs and has some popular
pubs and eateries. |

You can walk along the river / canal from the quay
to the Exe estuary at Turf Locks. Alternatively there is a shop on the quay
where you can hire bicycle and canoes if you fancy an alternative to Shank's Pony. |
