This weekend we were hosts to Uncle Geoff and Aunt Helen, it was lovely to see them and especially so as Uncle Geoff (as mentioned in my motorbike section) said that he would build us a conservatory.

We were somewhat overwhelmed when they arrived in this monster;

We were not quite sure why they needed bed and breakfast with us as the 'truck' had enough space for a double bed, dining room suite and servants quarters. However it was our privilege to look after them for the weekend and we enjoyed having them.

Over the weekend I planted up this years chilli crop - Hungarian Hot Wax (bell pepper flavour with a kick), Jalapeno's (classic pizza chilli's), Red Cherry's (small red round and dam hot), Cayenne (prolific, multicoloured and hot hot hot). They are now in the airing cupboard waiting to germinate.

On Sunday we went to Otterton Mill to get some locally milled flour (organic unbleached white, spelt, rye). We have a breadmaker and like to use it with these local flours.

We had to laugh at the chickens who live at the mill, they were feasting on fermenting apples !!! The 'chap' in the middle really was in 'you just stepped on my pint' mode, 'he' had a real attitude despite looking like beaker from the muppets.

After buying our flour we had a walk along the Otter river and came across this wear with introduced 'salmon leap'. You can just about see a couple of ropes dangling from the trees above the wear, they look like great summer fun.

Apologies for the really bad picture but we saw this Heron as we were walking along, which was quite a thrill.

Well I'm back to work this week, still have infections in my ears and chest but what the heck if I can't hear myself breathe, I know when I'm awake !!

The site is rapidly using up all 30Mb Blueyonder give me and so I shall have to resort to removing the large scale photo's that you can view by clicking on their smaller counterparts. If there are any photo's you want to keep then download the full scale ones before they go.

I'm currently working on an Exeter page and a couple of pages of photo's from walks around Dartmoor and the remaining Devon Countryside. Now that I'm back at work it may take longer to get these up but keep checking back.

Oh and if you've not checked out the links below, do so.

Another week off work, according to my doctor there is a confirmed flu outbreak, the fact that Carol had a flu shot and has not suffered as bad as me suggests this is what I've got.

In and out of bed and browsing the internet I came across www.rathergood.com, the site has some risqué parts but the parts below should produce a good clean giggle;

Ever bought plantains instead of bananas?

Punk Kittens

Helium and Gerbils - a good mix?

Ever wandered what Pavarotti's favourite animal is?

Or Who Destiny's Childs favourite sitcom star is?

Madonna's favourite twitcher?

George Michael's ideal garden pest?

The Beatles pet Ass's favourite mode of transport?

I started this week with a horrible head cold which Carol now has, it's hit quite a few people and is not particularly nice, we're on the third box BTW !!

Happy New Year !!!

On Monday 3rd we visited Paignton Zoo, as usual the weather forecast was as accurate as a thing that is highly inaccurate, so despite promises of bright warm sunshine we had grey skies and rain. Not ideal photographing circumstances but here are some highlights;

The reptile house;
Space under the heatlamps is evidently limited. This Cayman does have teeth but the terrapins are obviously tough nuts !!
The tortoise is mightier than the bird as is proved by this shot showing our feathered friends eviction from it's favourite spot under the heatlamp.
The 2 birds below were wandering around the reptile house doing there best to avoid being run over by pushchairs or being poked by small fingers.

A new feature of the Zoo is the addition of enclosures where you and the animals share the same cage, one of which is occupied by these Golden Lion Tamarinds, the other is occupied by a selection of Lemurs. The Tamarinds seemed more inclined to brave the cold weather unlike the Lemurs who remained behind glass and therefore were not easy to photograph.
One of our favourites - the Red Panda. The last few times we've been to the Zoo they've been asleep so it was good to be able to see them alert and active this time.
More heatlamp hogs and one of our favourites - Meercats, as the sun was going down these two were still on the watch for predators in the red light district.
