I've been working for the same ICT department for over 15 years now, and am currently with the Desktop Team. The role of the team is to install and support new Telephony and IT equipment for a large county wide infrastructure base. This includes bringing new or existing offices onto our wide area network (WAN) by providing them with their own local area network (LAN) and a high speed link back to our central backbone, it can also include more basic jobs such as setting up and installing desktop PC's, laptops and network printers. I have been involved with the telephony side of the network being asked to oversee the migration of a number of offices from older BT Meridian private exchanges (PABX) to newer Siemens Realitis private exchanges. The aspect that I like most about my job is the fact that it entails a fair amount of travelling, which means I am not stuck in an office all day and am able to enjoy the picturesque Devon scenery as I drive around either in our car or on my motorbike.
